Customer Spotlight by Larry Macon, Compliance Specialist |

Our Customer Spotlight segment will highlight a Compliance Assurance customer who is successfully using compliance as both a mechanism to protect customer information as well as an effective sales and marketing tool to grow their company. Our company spotlight today focuses on Liberty Insurance Agency of Pittsburgh, PA. With over 50 employees in three Pittsburgh region locations, Liberty Insurance provides risk management and insurance solutions to more than 7,000 business and personal clients regionally, nationally, and internationally.
We spoke with Kelly Maines, Sales Executive for Liberty Insurance about their compliance success and how they wished to be recognized in the industry; “Our vision is to become best recognized in our market territory as the most comprehensive ‘go-to’ trusted advisor of risk management and insurance strategies and solutions.” With just recently being ranked as one of the top largest Property and Casualty companies and Employee Benefits Service firms by Pittsburgh Business Times, Liberty Insurance is well on their way to many future successes.
One of the great successes of Liberty Insurance is their full compliance. A model customer since early 2006, Liberty Insurance has been using the Compliance Assurance Comply On-Demand software solution for their compliance needs.. When asked why they chose Compliance Assurance, Kelly said “We chose Compliance Assurance due to the amount of research they had done in order to be sure that they had the best tools available to help us…they really know what it takes to safeguard the information that we use everyday.”
To Liberty Insurance, Compliance is more than protecting customer information; it is another way of selling the customer on Liberty. “It is certainly a great talking and selling point and gives our clients and potential clients that added comfort level in dealing with us to know that we have taken the necessary steps to secure information; a lot of times it is something that they hadn’t really thought about before and they realize that is something they should definitely be concerned with” said Kelly. Kelly attributes the Compliance certificate as an effective sales tool. The certificate and seal are key in discussions with prospects and clients and key to, as Kelly states, “assure our customers that we are serious about protecting their information.”
Our final question to Kelly: “What was the largest problem that you were facing with compliance that Compliance Assurance helped you solve?” “Compliance Assurance helps us understand exactly what we needed to be doing; it certainly showed us all of the areas that you have to be concerned with – areas that we hadn’t thought of and probably would not have thought of. It’s amazing how easy it really is to become a victim of information theft. Now we’re kept up to date and are a lot more aware!”
Liberty Insurance, a trusted advisor, valuing customers and guaranteed compliant.

We’ve got your back... by Steve Polome, Chief Information Security Officer
The title of this article may make you grammatically wince, but let me assure you that it’s true: We do have your back. This column will appear regularly in Comply-Flash to discuss the security and compliance value that we bring to you and to update you on regulatory requirements as well as Comply On-Demand product enhancements.
The past several months have brought many changes to the industry and to Comply On-Demand. Increasingly, both consumers and regulators are paying more attention to the issue of Identity Theft and regulatory compliance. Our commitment to you is to provide the necessary tools to combat Identity Theft while helping you differentiate your business from your competitors. To that end, we have added and upgraded our tools:
- When you place the Compliance Assured Seal on your website, it will provide a click-through link to your custom privacy policy and Compliance Assured Certificate. See an example: Example Compliance Assured Seal
- Comply On-Demand now provides the required compliance language that when added to your outgoing email and fax, will protect you legally while also cautioning your clients on appropriate email usage.
- An updated Network Scanner searches for vulnerabilities on your network such as out-of-date Microsoft Patches, out-of-support Operating Systems, open ports, and unnecessary services. This automatic scanning tool does not give us or anyone else access to any customer data stored on your network workstations or server.
- Comply On-Demand adds Business Relationship Management and Processing to help you contact the companies and individuals with which you share customer information.
In today’s market, trusted privacy and security practices make good business sense. To stay compliant, you need experts working side by side with you as the rules change.
Remember – Your Security is our Business. If you ever have questions, call or email us anytime.
