93% of insurance professionals break the law without even knowing it!
Pittsburgh, PA ‐ The AG Foundation is a non‐profit organization that teaches other organizations how to deal with the rising problem of Identity Theft. In 2006, the AG Foundation completed a survey regarding the compliance of privacy regulations within the insurance industry.
With the help of Compliance Assurance Corporation, a company that develops a software‐as‐service solution to help small to medium businesses comply with the federal and state regulations, over 10,000 insurance firms were asked a short series of questions in order to determine their knowledge of and experience with compliance within the federal and state (specific to their licensed state) privacy regulations. The results of the survey showed that 93% of the firms did not comply with privacy laws designed to limit Identity Theft. In response, Anthony Griggs, Executive Director of AG Foundation said, “these types of issues are what have led to the epidemic increases seen in the incidence of ID theft…” Jerry Shafran, CEO of Compliance Assurance replies, “This is not surprising based on what we’ve seen in the marketplace.
Surveys performed by the actual Departments of Insurance have shown very high noncompliance rates…and that is from the organization that is supposed to be policing these issues.”
The AG Foundation forges, finds and/or funds programs designed to educate and safeguard children, families and communities. For more information, visit www.theagfoundation.org.
